Our technology and product are looking for a new home

It is publically known that EXO U is not in situation to bring Ormiboard to market (press release), and the related technology, to market.

Given that certain parties have communicated an interest in possibly acquiring the assets of EXO U Inc., the Company applied to the Court and obtained an extension of the delay to file a proposal to its creditors until April 21, 2017. This will enable all potential interested parties to clearly define their intentions.

As previously stated, Richter Advisory Group Inc. was appointed Trustee in the proceedings initiated under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. In addition, the Board of Directors of EXO U Inc. has asked the Trustee to assist them in seeking a purchaser for the assets.

The assets in question are mainly composed of:
·       A universal application for teachers and student’s needs (class, lessons, quizzes, assignments, homework). V1 completed, V2 in beta.

·       Building blocks (server and client sides) including:
o  Generic containers for iOS, Android, Windows, MacOS to package web based universal app for distribution via the app stores
o  VR asset for Unity3D enabling classroom collective VR experiences
o  DB-less, communication engine ready for scalability, enabling direct communication between browsers, server and apps instances. (demo of an use case: )
o  Universal UI Layer extremely efficient on any touch or mouse based devices (several years of R&D, demo:
o   Mac, Windows and Android client app running Ormiboard Server (with the libraries) and enabling communication in the classroom without Internet access (offline classroom)

·       The source codes to the software and building blocks developed by the Company
·       EXO U CTO, main architect and developer for the product and the building blocks, is open to continue the development based on new goals to ensure continuity in the development.
·       All other related intellectual property such as patents and trademarks and tradenames (
·       Tax loss in the approximate amount of CAD $20 million

Ormiboard V2 covers teacher needs for BYOD classroom

Ormiboard V2 brings all the tools requested by teachers to run a classroom and drive students to success, without being unfocused by the technology.

Ormiboard is ideal for any classroom with a least a whiteboard. A classroom without a whiteboard but with devices for every student is also a good candidate.

Classes, groups, students

  • Start a Live Class with one click - students can join with a PIN (first time) then a click.
  • Push lessons to a class, a group or a student.
  • Assign lessons to a class or a group.
  • View live student’s activity.
  • View student’s attendance, progress and results.
  • Follow mode, to replicate teacher navigation on student’s devices
  • Eyes-up, to help students to focus on the teacher when Ormiboard is not being used.

Lessons Editor

As teachers don’t have time to invest on new software, the lesson editor is focused on a minimum learning curve and a maximum efficiency.

  • Library with clipart, images, sounds, videos and articles, with capability to connect more sources.
  • Hand draw, text, shapes, images with multiple attributes.
  • Group to move or align elements
  • Animate elements
  • Add actions to elements: web link, play audio, zoom an image, go to a slide, etc.
  • Quiz and response system: any element can be flagged as a possible response and the response can be tracked by the teacher.

Perpetual Gallery - 1500 years of painting - Masterpieces in 4K for the classroom - Or how to inspire students

With an HD interactive panel or whiteboard, paintings looks nice. With a 4K interactive panel, students can view all the details of the artwork, including the movements of the brush on the canvas.

We built a slideshow of paintings - a classroom friendly selection of inspinring masterpieces. Definitively more inspiring than a black screen!

Experimenting virtual reality in the classroom with Oculus Rift DK2 and Classroom Browser


Virtual reality for the classroom

Working on solutions for the classroom, we were curious to evaluate the educational value of virtual reality.
We had the following questions:
  • What can we learn within 5 minutes or less with VR?
  • What can we understand within 5 minutes or less with VR?
Based on the feedback from a few teachers using our educational experiences, we created several short scenarios with a focus on the relationship between the students and the teacher during the VR experiment.
Some of our educational VR experiences are available on Oculus Share: Cartoon or Dinosaurs.

Pedagogical aspects

The goal of the experiment is to evaluate if VR has a pedagogical value in the classroom.

For the experiment, the teacher and students stand up and hold a mobile device allowing them to move in the virtual world. The students can see the teacher but not the other students.

BYOD in the classroom - Realistically

A teacher in a classroom with 35 students using different devices and operating systems.

When teacher support a student unable to download an app, as an IT would do, what will do the 34 other students with full access to apps and Internet on their own devices?

To solve this, EXO UI is a space each student can install on his own device, to be all-together in an area dedicated to assist the teaching and the learning processes, whatever is the curriculum, the methodology, and the technology involved.
